Vaseline for Tattoos: protect your newly tattooed skin without petrolatum
After getting a tattoo, the skin enters a recovery phase. It is sensitive, inflamed, and needs protection to heal properly without losing color, drying out, or forming excessive scabs.
That's why it's common for tattoo artists to recommend applying some type of ointment or petroleum jelly to the area.
But here's the catch: most petroleum jellies are petrolatum-based, a petroleum derivative that does not nourish the skin, can clog pores, and often contains fragrances or preservatives that are not ideal for an open wound.
Why avoid petrolatum on tattoos?
- It is neither biodegradable nor plant-based
- It can create an excessive seal that traps bacteria
- On sensitive skin, it can cause mild irritation or whiteheads
- It has no regenerative properties: it only acts as a barrier
Maxalli: vegetable petroleum jelly ideal for tattoos
Maxalli's Natural Multipurpose Petroleum Jelly is an excellent alternative for post-tattoo care. It is formulated with 100% plant-based ingredients, fragrance-free, petrolatum-free, and with active ingredients that do provide real benefits to the skin:
Contains:
- Cocoa butter, which softens and nourishes
- Castor oil, with calming and emollient properties
- Vitamin E, which supports cell regeneration
- Dexpanthenol, helps healing and keeps tattooed skin hydrated and protected.
Its texture is similar to traditional petroleum jelly, but it does not clog pores, contains no artificial preservatives, and is safe even if used on sensitive or exposed areas.
How to apply it?
- Gently clean the tattoo with water and neutral soap
- Pat dry, do not rub
- Apply a thin layer of Maxalli Natural Petroleum Jelly
- Repeat 2 to 3 times a day during the first few days, or as directed by the tattoo artist
Fragrance-free, no unnecessary ingredients, no risks.
