Natural deodorant without baking soda: take care of your skin without irritating it

Desodorante natural sin bicarbonato de sodio

Baking soda is one of the most common ingredients in natural deodorants. It is used for its ability to neutralize odors and alkalize the environment, but what many do not know is that it can also alter the skin's natural pH balance and cause irritation, burning, or discoloration. At Maxalli, we decided to leave it out for a simple reason: skin deserves respect, not aggression disguised as naturalness.

Why avoid baking soda?

Human skin has a slightly acidic pH, between 4.5 and 5.5. This acidic environment is crucial for maintaining the balance of the skin microbiome, preventing infections, and preserving the skin's protective barrier. Baking soda, on the other hand, has a pH of around 9. When applied repeatedly, it disrupts that balance and can cause:

  • Redness or sensitivity
  • Burning after shaving
  • Dark spots due to chronic inflammation
  • Flaking or burning sensation

Although baking soda is “natural,” that does not make it harmless.

What about magnesium? Is it better?

Many brands promote it as an alternative to baking soda. But be careful: ingredients such as magnesium hydroxide (also known as "milk of magnesia") and magnesium carbonate also have an alkaline pH. Although they are usually milder than baking soda, they can alter the skin's pH in a similar way, especially on sensitive skin or with prolonged use.

Furthermore, their deodorant effect does not come from direct antimicrobial action, but from changing the pH of the area so that bacteria do not thrive. This approach is not very selective and can disturb the natural balance of the skin's flora.

What makes Maxalli different?

Instead of using baking soda or magnesium derivatives, Maxalli uses a combination of gentle and functional antimicrobial ingredients that respect your skin's pH:

  • Citric Acid Ester, which inhibits bacterial activity without altering the natural acidic environment.
  • Methylheptyl glycerin, an effective antimicrobial, ideal for sensitive skin.
  • Essential oils of herbs and fruits with antibacterial properties
  • Natural waxes and oils, which protect and hydrate without clogging pores or causing irritation.

The result: a deodorant that works from the first use, without stinging, without staining, and without forcing your skin to "adapt."
